Nicola, of course, was watching the whole time.

"Um, what exactly is making everyone panic? I mean, I agree that the big light thing doesn't look natural, but there are plenty of possibilities, right? There could be some sort of huge fireworks show or something going on, or it could be a friendly supernatural being. It could be some weird natural phenomenon, or--"

As she had been speaking, a vine had been wrapping itself tightly around Nicola's leg, growing up to take hold of her other leg, then her arm...

"Okay, yeah, the fireworks option is definitely out now. A little help?"

1836  General Category / Suggestions / Re: Role Play Academy on: June 25, 2009, 09:17:36 am
I remember the roleplay academy board from long, long ago. It didn't have much in it, but if we filled it with stuff, I think that it would be pretty useful to members who don't have too many grammar skills.

The only problem is, those people tend to be the ones who use a whole lot of chatspeak. If they're too lazy to type two more letters to complete a word, are they really going to take the time or the effort to actually read all of the things they should be doing for their writing skills?

Those who have okay grammar skills, however, who want to improve on them; this board would be great for them.

Anyway, overall, I like the idea.

*pokes topic*

Wow, looks like I arrived 17 days too late for this to be ironic. XD

Oh well, I'm here anyway! I can't promise you all that I'm going to be super active on the site for eternity now that I'm back, but I can say that I'm probably going to be popping in a lot for at least the next couple of weeks. I'm really glad to see all these familiar faces! :D

On a different note, I do in fact have some ideas for the site that could potentially be useful. I originally came up with the ideas for Phoenix/Hope's site, Pokemon Dimension, but since it hasn't been actually posted in since April, I think it's safe to transfer them over here.

Name: Lola Willowheart
Powers:
1.) My character can control the weather, although doing so takes a bit of energy out of her; if she changes it too dramatically, she could possibly black out or die.
2.) She can slightly control the water cycle (Ex: She could pick up a glass of water and turn the water into a cloud, then make the cloud precipitate the water back into the glass.)
3.) Lola can redirect electricity, but only when it is in the form of lightning.

Lola is one of the good guys. ;)
May I ask, is there an actual plot that you guys have in mind?

Once Mae reached the lab, she went ahead and pushed through the glass doors into the large room she had been in not more than a few hours earlier. Mae made sure that she held the door open so that Torch could follow in after her, then looked around. No longer filled with the anticipation and excitement a Trainer feels right before getting their first Pokemon, Mae could now look around the place properly. There were several machines and contraptions scattered around the left side of the vast room, most of which Mae had no idea what they did, and on the right side of the room were the boxes the Pokemon were kept in. There was a desk pushed to the far wall, though its surface was smothered with a mountain of papers.
Other than that, the place looked completely empty.

"Hello?" Mae called tentatively, looking around.

There a was a door to the far left of the room that Mae hadn't noticed earlier, so she decided to try that and see if Professor Elm was there.

"Hello?" she called again upon opening the door.

She had entered a room considerably smaller than the lab's main room, and Professor Elm was standing but a few feet away, looking at something on a desk. Mae walked over to the desk and peered down. The desk was empty, but the Professor was staring at it with extreme intensity, wearing some sort of weird goggles and jotting down notes.

"What are you looking at?" Mae asked, trying to squint hard enough to see what ever it was.

"Eh? Ohh, Mae, it's you. Well, this here is the Pokemon Kecleon, and I'm studying its ability to change color and its behavior in an unfamiliar environment. But of course, that's not what I called you here for." Removing his goggles and setting down his notes, the Professor turned to look at Mae. "You see, my friend Mr. Pokemon e-mailed me earlier this morning to tell me that he had recently made an important discovery. As you can see, I'm pretty busy with lab work and all that, so I can't really go see what he's done for myself."

"Let me guess. You want me to go to Route 30 and find out what great discovery he made?"

"You've got it!" Elm replied enthusiastically.

"Couldn't you send somebody else on this quest of yours?" Mae asked. "Or maybe actually ask him what discovery he made?"

"No, no, of course not! Mr. Pokemon is a very secretive man, you see," Elm replied, "and I have sent some other people on this quest." A pause. "It's just that none of them have ever come back..."

"Eh?!" Mae's expression was that of someone who had just seen a ghost. "You mean you're sending me on some freaky death mission?!"

"No, I'm sure they all have a good explanation for not returning, like they decided to just continue on their journey--"

"Uh-huh, yeah, I'm sure they did." Mae said, waving off his seemingly petty excuses. "Look, I'll go on this dangerous mission thing for you, under one very important condition."

"And what's that?" Professor Elm inquired, looking relieved that she had decided to accept.

"Unless you want to be yelled at and scolded forever and ever, don't you dare tell my mom."

1842  General Category / Spam Area / Re: My Guild. on: April 18, 2009, 08:43:44 am
Well, I think that you're giving up a bit too quickly. Try developing your guild's idea a bit more, like giving it a couple of cool pictures or putting an interesting history behind it besides 'I started a guild because I felt like it'. If you improved on some of that, I'm sure once this place gets a bit more active, people will start joining your guild.

As Mae skipped towards the first route that would truly begin her adventure with Pokemon, she was halted by a loud cry behind her.

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiit!!!" A girl whom Mae recognized as her younger sister skidded to a stop right next to Mae, panting for breath. "Glad... *pant* Glad I caught up t-to you. Mom w-wants *pant* you back at the house. Before *wheeze* you leave."

"Ahh, okay. Thanks, Lilly!" Mae called back as she raced towards the house. She wondered what her mom wanted from her. Maybe to give her something to start off her journey with? The possibilities were exciting.

Of course, this is the reason that Mae's hopes were immediately crushed when she walked inside the front door to find her mother cheerily waving a list of chores in the air as she skipped down the hallway towards Mae.

"Hey, what's this Growlithe doing here?" Mae's mom asked, curious, as she handed the fox-girl the chore list.

"He's my first Pokemon!" Mae exclaimed, picking him up off the floor and holding him up so that his adorable coal-black eyes were looking into her mother's curious green ones.

"Awww, he's adorable!"

"I know, isn't he? I named him Torch!" the girl replied excitedly, setting him back on the floor to let him explore. "Well, I'm going to go do these chores now, so that Torch and I can start our journey."

Glancing at the list, Mae noted the chores she had to do:

Do the laundry
Wash the dishes
Vacuum the living room
Take out the garbage
Water the Sunflora
Refill the bird-Pokemon feeder
Feed the Goldeen
Mow the lawn

"Wait a minute! If you're home, couldn't you just do these yourself?"

"Nahh," her mother remarked, waving off the possibility with a smile, "This is much, much easier. Now get hopping on those chores~!"

Mae's mom quickly skipped down the hallway, up the stairs, and into her room, Mae staring at her with her 'you've got to be kidding me' expression. Shaking her head, she looked back at the chore list. The laundry was first, so Mae set to work, Torch following behind her.
Mae quickly loaded the hamper of dirty clothes into the washer and turned it on.

"This should be a while," she remarked to Torch, "How about we do the next chore while we wait?"

Mae made her way to the kitchen, turning on the sink and putting Torch on the counter next to the sink. Mae washed and scrubbed the dishes, and Torch dried them. After they ended up with a large stack of shining plates, bowls, and silverware, Mae put them away and returned to the laundry, taking the clothes out of the washer and putting them into the dryer. After turning it on, Mae looked back down at her list and crossed off the first two chores.

Do the laundry
Wash the dishes
Vacuum the living room
Take out the garbage
Water the Sunflora
Refill the bird-Pokemon feeder
Feed the Goldeen
Mow the lawn

"Time to vaccum the living room!" Mae declared, walking into the living room and pulling the vacuum cleaner out from the closet. Torch sat on top of the vacuum cleaner as the fox-girl got the chore finished. It didn't take very long, and it was quickly marked off the list.

Wash the dishes
Vacuum the living room
Take out the garbage
Water the Sunflora
Refill the bird-Pokemon feeder
Feed the Goldeen
Mow the lawn

Without hesitation, Mae skipped over to the front door and went outside, walking over to the garage and opening it to get the trash cans and the recycling bin. Mae brought the first garbage can down the driveway, then went back up and brought down the second. Torch tried to help by dragging down the recycling bin, and Mae chuckled at the sight of him trying so hard to bring down the large red bin. Laughing, she picked up the recycling bin herself and brought it down the driveway where the garbage cans sat.

Wash the dishes
Vacuum the living room
Take out the garbage
Water the Sunflora
Refill the bird-Pokemon feeder
Feed the Goldeen
Mow the lawn

"Hey, we're halfway done!" Mae exclaimed to her partner. Now excited to finish her chores, Mae ran back into the garage and snatched up the watering can. Dashing back out and around the house to the backyard, she proceeded to fill up the can with water using the hose, and walked over to the Sunflora, where she sprinkled water over all of them.

"Sun, flora Sunflora!" they cheered happily.

Mae smiled. That was one more chore off the list.

Do the laundry
Wash the dishes
Vacuum the living room
Take out the garbage
Water the Sunflora
Refill the bird-Pokemon feeder
Feed the Goldeen
Mow the lawn

Now for the bird-Pokemon feeder. Taking it down, she went into the house and brought back the bird-Pokemon seed, berry, and Pokeblock mix. Filling up the feeder, the fox-girl hung it back on its stick and watched a few Pidgey come and perch on it, happily eating. Mae gave her Growlithe a few berries, too, and he gobbled them down gratefully. There was yet another chore finished!

Do the laundry
Wash the dishes
Vacuum the living room
Take out the garbage
Water the Sunflora
Refill the bird-Pokemon feeder
Feed the Goldeen
Mow the lawn

Skipping back inside the house, Mae stopped in the room with the Goldeen tank in it. Fishing through the cabinet, she finally found the fish-Pokemon food, and sprinkled a bit into the tank. The Goldeen ate just as happily as the Pidgey had, and Mae smiled at their cute nibbling at the food floating at the top of the water. She quickly marked through the chore and ran outside to do the next one.

Do the laundry
Wash the dishes
Vacuum the living room
Take out the garbage
Water the Sunflora
Refill the bird-Pokemon feeder
Feed the Goldeen
Mow the lawn

"Only one more!" she cheered, running into the garage with Torch trailing after her. Emerging from the garage a few seconds later with both Torch and her older brother's Rotom racing after her, Mae skipped into the yard. Rotom, swiftly transforming into a lawn mower, allowed Mae to push it around the yard while Torch sat on top of it, enjoying the ride. After a long fifteen minutes, the job was finally finished. Wiping the sweat off her brow, Mae finally marked the last chore off the list.

Do the laundry
Wash the dishes
Vacuum the living room
Take out the garbage
Water the Sunflora
Refill the bird-Pokemon feeder
Feed the Goldeen
Mow the lawn

"Mom, I finished my chores!" Mae called once she was inside the house. Her mom quickly appeared in the doorway of her room.

"Really? That was pretty fast!" she noted, impressed as she strolled back down the stairs. "Here you go, your allowance."

"I get an allowance?" Mae asked, curious, as she took the pouch of money that her mother was holding out to her. Peering inside, she asked, "How much is in there?"

"I believe that would be three thousand Yen," her mother replied passively.

"Three thousand?! Wow! Thank you so much, Mom!" Mae gave her mother a huge thank-you embrace.

"You're quite welcome," her mother replied, patting Mae on the head. "Now go have fun on your journey, Mae!"

Nodding, the fox-girl left the house and started her racing towards the route, with Torch leaping along beside her.

"Oh, wait! Mae! I just remembered, the Professor needed you for something!"

Slowing down, Mae turned around and exasperatedly turned around to face Professor Elm's building.

"Why couldn't everyone ask all these favors of me earlier?" she muttered to herself as she headed for the tall, gray structure where she had gotten her Pokemon.

Mae lounged across her bed, a book in her hands and squares of sunlight filtering through her windows across the lavender cloth of her bedspread. Two flame-colored fox ears tipped with cream poked out of her sunny lochs and a matching fluffy tail waved around in the air several inches behind her head. Mae had been born with these; her mother and father, though stunned by this phenomenon, seemed okay with it, and everyone else just took her for some girl wearing a Ninetales headband and artificial tail. That was certainly all right with her, because other people would probably freak out if they found out that these 'artificial costume pieces' were actually attached.

Mae's thoughts returned to her book as cerulean eyes scanned the page in front of her. The book was titled 'Trainer Classes', and she seemed to be flipping through fairly quickly-- undoubtedly only looking at the pictures-- until her eyes stopped on a page with the word 'Ranger' printed in large, bold letters at the top. The light blue eyes flicked left and right, then left again, and right again as she absorbed all the words written inside. Clapping the book closed with a sort of air of finality about the action, Mae sat up and grinned.

"I'm going to be a ranger!" she declared to her empty room. Then, Mae hopped to her feet and dashed out of the room, down the stairs, and through the front door.

The fox-girl raced across the grassy expanse of New Bark Town, flowers and Pokemon passing through Mae’s vision in colorful blurs. A square, gray building stood halfway across town from her house, and that was the object in Mae’s vision which was getting bigger and bigger by the second, hurtling towards her. Mae was only a few feet away from it when she put her legs out to make herself skid to a stop. Her course grinding to a halt only when her face was but a few inches from the drab brick, Mae stepped back from the wall, looking around herself. This didn’t appear to be the front of the building, but there was a cute little purple flower growing right at her foot, which Mae picked and tucked into her hair for good luck. Hopefully there were still some starter Pokemon left when she got to the front of Professor Elm’s lab.

Setting off around the giant building, Mae skipped to the front of the structure, her fox-tail cheerily swinging back and forth behind her. As she soon found when she got to the front of the lab, there weren’t many people there at all, just a few new trainers leaving with their Pokemon. As Mae walked inside, she noticed several things about the place. First, she noticed that the size of the inside of the building well matched that of the exterior. She also saw that there were a number of boxes lined up on a table with names of Pokemon classes on them, written in blue sharpie. Most important to the reason she had come here, however, she spotted Professor Elm and, eyes brightening, rushed over to him. He glanced down at her and chuckled.

“I take it you want your first Pokemon?”

Mae nodded ecstatically in response.

“Well, which trainer class are you going to be?”

“I’m going to be a ranger!” she cheered without hesitation, putting as much energy into the cheer as she had done in her room, if not more.

“Alright then, here are your choices,” Elm remarked with a smile as he let out all of the Pokemon in the box marked ‘Ranger’. “Which would you like?”

The foxgirl glanced over all the Pokemon. They were all so cute-- which one was she supposed to pick? Well, in times of trouble, there was always one method that was always more effective than anything else…

“Eenie meenie minie moe… I want… that one!”

Her finger had ended up pointing to a Growlithe, who was staring up at her with adorable coal-colored eyes.

“Aww, he’s so cute!” Mae enthused, picking up the Growlithe and hugging it close to her.

Turning back to Professor Elm, she quickly thanked the man and exited the lab, enthusiastic to begin her journey into the exciting world of Pokemon.
